Helpful tips for the smile-defining years:

These younger years are extremely important for the healthy development of your child’s smile and oral health habits. Below are some helpful tips to ensure your child is on the right track to a radiant smile!

  • Establish a relationship with the dentist early. We recommend scheduling your child’s first appointment within six months of their first tooth erupting.
  • Limit nap time bottles to only water for your toddler. Sleeping with juice or milk can cause decay due to the sugars sitting on the teeth for an extended period of time.
  • Properly clean pacifiers. Bacteria that can form cavities can be passed from parent to child, so be sure to properly clean your child’s pacifier.
  • Provide healthy snacks. Avoid sour, sticky, or chewy treats for your child since these can cause cavities. Choose healthier snacks, such as, granola bars or pretzels.
  • Provide proper protection. If your child plays a sport, be sure to supply them with a mouthguard. This will help prevent jaw, mouth, or teeth injuries and save you money in the long run.

Set your child up with healthy oral habits and watch their smile light up for years.
