You've got questions. We've got answers.

Adjusting to life with a new baby or growing child can be difficult, especially if you are new parents! We’ve put together some of the most frequently asked questions by parents to lend you a helping hand.

When will my baby’s first tooth come in?

The majority of babies will get their first teeth between four and seven months. For some babies, teeth might appear as early as three months or as late as after twelve months. By age three, most children have a full set of 20 baby teeth.

How do I know when my baby is teething?

This is a question your baby will usually answer for you. Fussiness, drooling, biting, not being able to sleep – these are all signs that your baby’s teeth are starting to come in. Redness and swelling in the gums are common signs that baby teeth are about to sprout. Often you can see the white of the tooth forming under the gums before it comes through.

How can I relieve my baby’s teething pain?

There are a number of ways to ease your baby’s discomfort during the difficult teething process. Let your baby chew on a teething ring that’s been in the refrigerator to provide cooling relief. Even simpler, let her chew on a cool damp wash cloth. If none of these seem to help the pain, talk to your doctor about an appropriate amount of acetaminophen or ibuprofen.

Are there foods I should feed my baby during teething?

Yes! Cold foods like applesauce and yogurt can be soothing to a baby’s swollen gums. If she is eating whole foods you can give her something to chew on, the pressure from solid foods can relieve the pain of a tooth coming in.

How do I take care of my baby’s first teeth?

Before your baby’s teeth develop you can start by wiping her gums with a wet cloth, this will help get rid of unwanted bacteria. Once teeth do start to come in, you can brush them daily with warm water and a soft toothbrush made for infants.

What happens when my child’s tooth falls out?

Your child might be a little afraid at first when they lose a tooth. Find out how to make it a fun adventure by checking out our Tooth Fairy letter section!

How can I help my child to develop a consistent brushing routine?
